Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia is the excessive growth of the male mammary gland, it is caused by various factors mainly the low production of testosterone or overweight.
Changes in the breasts can be observed from early ages such as between 14-16 years old and in adults from 24-45 years old.
Gynecomastia can be classified into three types:
Gynecomastia grade I: breast enlargement, but no excess skin.
Gynecomastia grade II: moderate breast enlargement and may or may not have excess skin.
Gynecomastia grade III: there is a large increase of the breast and there is excess skin.
It can be detected in a simple way with a light palpation to locate a mass under the nipple, which will indicate if the gynecomastia is fat (if the consistency is soft) or if it is rather a glandular growth (the consistency will be hard). Occasionally, during palpation the patient may experience tenderness.
Gynecomastia does not cause health problems, but it can affect the self-esteem of men. There are several techniques that can help us to obtain very good results but it is important to go to a certified plastic surgeon who will give us a diagnosis and apply the appropriate technique according to each case.
